XML BUILDER for Display Utility

(IE users should read the note at the bottom of this page before beginning.)

First Thing
Click: "New XML" ->		 ...then ...    
  Click "New Location" ->

Instead of a photo, you can type in the address movieLoader.swf OR audioLoader.swf when asked for the address of a "Photo" (in the first prompt box that comes up for "New Photo"). In that case, you will of course have to provide a mp3 file or flv file* (when you upload resources) and will have to provide your Display Utility user with the mp3 or flv filename so they can call up the audio or movie resource and play it (these instructions for the user will be provided in the third "New Photo" prompt along with the other text). The text provided in the third "New Photo" prompt can be quite long, since the area where the text appears has scrollbars; also some html, including links, can be in that text (for any links, use target="_blank" so the Display Utility Page is not displaced). Videos and audios will have to be rather small using the upload utility provided - larger files will have to be uploaded to your folder via ftp (and this will require the teacher/supervisor's assistance). [*FOOTNOTE: flv files may need to have their extensions changed to .swf before uploading - this may be needed to spoof the server to recognize the file type, but is only necessary if your district server does not allow flv uploads; if you must change the extension from flv to swf, simply use the whatever.sfw address in the textbox of the Movie Player, to call the movie up - the Movie Player does not care what the name or extension is or even if there is an extension.]

Copy the code that was produced from the textarea at the bottom of the Builder to NotePad or SimpleText and, with the bottom textbox (Save As Type) set to "All Files", Save it As photoGallery.xml (of course you will put this file on your desktop or on your web server - wherever the Display Utility itself is run from)..


 



The code will appear BELOW and will be good code if you followed a proper, valid, complete sequence.

(This xml file is the file that gives the Display Utility its structure, the text in it, and the file names of the image, audio, swf, and video files used in it.)
NOTE: If you used Internet Explorer and had to expressly "Allow Scripted Windows",
then you will have to redo the first New Location button click and delete the 3rd line of
the generated html which reads: <location locationName="null"> .
